Cross Community Church has participated in numerous outreach programs and events through the years. We believe there’s a real tangible way to demonstrate the love of Christ through fellowship and giving to the community of Elyria. There’s a desperate need for authentic relationships in our area. We aren’t just offering a church to attend on Sundays, we’re being the eyes, arms and heart of Jesus and reaching out to the city of Elyria.
On March 15, 2010 at 9:59 p.m. Elyria Police Officer James A. Kerstetter, a 15 year veteran of the Elyria Police Department, was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance involving neighbors on 18th Street in Elyria. Each year Cross Community has participated in the Kerstetter 5k to show our support for not only the family and friends of Officer Kerstetter, but the rest of Elyria’s police force. These brave men and women serve our community and our involvement with this event is just a small way we can stand up and say thank you. CCC has a large turnout to both run and walk in the race as well as a comfort booth that provides fruit, water and granola bars to the runners.
Existing resources operating independently are not adequate to meet current and growing levels of need. In addition, one church alone cannot deal with all the complex issues of poverty. It takes churches working together, across denominational lines, to meet these multifaceted needs. Furthermore, Love INC can do what the others can’t. Agencies, charities and government can provide a safety net to help those in need, but it can’t Love and bring transformation like Love In the Name of Christ can.
